Origin
Cranial border and lateral condyle of the proximal tibia.
Insertion
Proximal ends of metatarsal bones I (rudimentary) and II.
Action
Flexes the tarsus and rotates the paw laterally.
Innervation
Common fibular (peroneal) nerve (n. fibularis communis).
Clinical relevance
In the neurological examination its belly is tapped to elicit tarsal flexion (cranial tibial reflex), which tests the fibular nerve.
