Overview
It lies on the cranial surface of the humerus. Its tendon of origin crosses the shoulder joint and runs in the intertubercular groove of the humerus, which in cattle is a single groove between the greater and lesser tubercles. There it glides over the intertubercular bursa (bursa intertubercularis). The belly is crossed by internal tendinous sheets.
Origin
Supraglenoid tubercle of the scapula (tuberculum supraglenoidale).
Insertion
Radial tuberosity (tuberositas radii), on the medial side of the proximal forearm.
Action
Flexes the elbow and extends the shoulder. When standing it helps fix the shoulder joint.
Innervation
Musculocutaneous nerve (n. musculocutaneus).
